Review your plan options around what matters to you.

Your current plan is a useful place to begin. What is working well? What feels unclear? Whether your concern is a provider, prescription cost, benefit, or upcoming coverage change, we can start with that question.

A conversation with Scott can help you understand your existing benefits and compare available options from the insurance companies we represent. We’ll explain the differences and applicable enrollment timing so you can decide on your next step.

  1. Start with the care you want to keep.

List the practices and specialists you use in Scottsdale and elsewhere in the Valley. Include your prescriptions and preferred pharmacy so your coverage conversation reflects the care you actually receive.

  2. Understand the documents your plan sends.

Not sure what a benefits summary or Annual Notice of Change means? Bring it to the conversation. The annual notice describes changes taking effect in January and can help you identify questions about the year ahead. Learn about the Annual Notice of Change.

  3. Connect the comparison with your enrollment rights.

Guidance is available year-round. Enrolling in or changing Medicare Advantage or Part D coverage requires an applicable enrollment period; Medigap follows separate rules. A review is a chance to understand your choices, with no obligation to change coverage. Explore Medicare enrollment periods.

Turning 65 in Scottsdale

Turning 65? Put the Medicare pieces in order.

Starting Medicare involves more than picking an insurance company. You’ll want to understand when to sign up, how your current coverage fits, and which coverage path suits your needs. Scott can walk through those questions with you.

Begin a few months before your 65th birthday or expected coverage transition. If you’re still working, preparing to retire, or helping a spouse, we can help you identify the decisions to address before comparing plans.

  1. Know whether you need to apply.

For most people turning 65, the Initial Enrollment Period spans seven months: three before the birthday month, the birthday month, and three after. Some people are enrolled automatically; others apply. Check your circumstances so you know what action to take.

    Check how Medicare enrollment works.

  2. Coordinate Medicare with your current insurance.

If you or your spouse have coverage through current employment, speak with the benefits administrator before making changes. Employer size, drug coverage, and Health Savings Account contributions can affect the conversation. COBRA and retiree coverage have different rules from coverage based on active employment.

  3. Choose coverage after you understand the basics.

Social Security generally handles enrollment in Parts A and B, with the Railroad Retirement Board handling applicable cases. Choosing Medicare Advantage or adding Medigap and Part D involves separate decisions. Scott can explain how those paths differ and compare available options from the carriers we represent.

Official Medicare sign-up information from Social Security.

You can sign up for Medicare without starting Social Security retirement benefits. If you’re already receiving benefits, check whether you’ll be enrolled automatically. Your Medicare and retirement decisions do not have to happen at the same time.

Compare your coverage paths

Medicare plan options in Scottsdale.

A useful comparison starts with your ZIP code, providers, prescriptions, and preferences. We can explain how these coverage paths work and review available options from the carriers we represent. The right choice is personal to your situation.

Part C

Medicare Advantage plans

Private plans that provide Part A and Part B benefits, usually with Part D included. Review the specific plan’s provider network, cost sharing, referral rules, and medical out-of-pocket maximum. You must continue paying your Part B premium.

Learn about Medicare Advantage →
Medigap

Medicare Supplement plans

Also called Medigap, this coverage works with Original Medicare to help pay certain out-of-pocket costs. Ask about Plan G, Plan N, premiums, and when medical underwriting may apply. Part D drug coverage is generally purchased separately.

Part D

Part D prescription drug plans

Compare your actual medications and preferred Scottsdale pharmacy. Check formulary tiers, pharmacy costs, and coverage rules as well as the premium. A drug-plan comparison can help explain differences that matter to your routine.

Medigap and Medicare Advantage are different coverage paths; Medigap does not pay Medicare Advantage cost sharing. Availability, eligibility, costs, and benefits vary. Compare coverage options at Medicare.gov.

A Scottsdale perspective on your coverage

Keep your doctors and daily life in the comparison.

From Old Town and McCormick Ranch to North Scottsdale, your coverage questions may involve several practices and facilities. A familiar health-system name is a starting point—we’ll look at the specific plan, provider, and location.

Tell Scott where you receive care, which pharmacy you use, and whether you spend time outside Arizona. Those details help make a coverage review more useful.

  1. Identify the exact Scottsdale facility.

If you use HonorHealth Scottsdale Osborn Medical Center, Scottsdale Shea Medical Center, or Scottsdale Thompson Peak Medical Center, include that location and your treating providers in the review. Each plan’s participation needs to be checked separately with the plan and provider.

  2. Review your specialist and prescription needs.

Include your primary care practice, specialists, medications, and preferred pharmacy. We can help you compare provider access, referral requirements, drug coverage, and the costs you want to understand.

  3. Discuss seasonal living and travel.

Spend part of the year outside Scottsdale? Tell us your permanent residence and where you expect to receive routine care. Review access at that destination separately from emergency and urgent-care coverage. A PPO label alone does not confirm access to a particular doctor.

  4. Consider more than the monthly premium.

Look at the costs for office visits, tests, outpatient procedures, and hospital care alongside prescription expenses. Understanding the Medicare Advantage medical out-of-pocket limit is part of that conversation. See what counts toward the medical out-of-pocket maximum.

Your questions, answered

Your Scottsdale Medicare questions, answered.

Start with the question that brought you here. We can help with new coverage, an existing plan, or enrollment timing.

Is there a fee to work with a Medicare agent in Scottsdale?

Medicare Universe does not charge a fee for Medicare education, plan comparison, or enrollment assistance. Insurance carriers compensate licensed agents for eligible enrollments. Your insurance premiums and other plan costs still apply, and you are not obligated to enroll.

Can I get Medicare help at any time of year?

Yes. You can contact Medicare Universe throughout the year to ask questions, understand coverage, or prepare for a future decision. Enrolling in or changing Medicare Advantage or Part D coverage requires an applicable enrollment period. Medigap follows different rules. We’ll help you understand what may be possible in your situation. Learn about Medicare enrollment timing.

What’s the difference between annual enrollment and Medicare Advantage open enrollment?

The Annual Enrollment Period, also called fall Open Enrollment, runs October 15–December 7 and allows changes to Medicare Advantage and Part D coverage. The Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period runs January 1–March 31 for people already in Medicare Advantage; it allows one switch to another Medicare Advantage plan or a return to Original Medicare, with the option to join Part D. Special Enrollment Periods may apply after qualifying events. Medigap has separate rules. See Medicare’s enrollment-period guidance.

Can you help me check my HonorHealth doctors and Scottsdale hospitals?

Yes. Share the doctors, practices, and facilities you want to include. We can help review their participation in the specific plans you are considering. Confirm the exact plan and practice location with both the plan and provider, including whether the office is accepting patients under that plan. Mentioning a facility here does not imply an affiliation or guarantee of coverage.

Which Medicare plan is best for me?

There is no single plan that fits everyone. Your providers, prescriptions, budget, travel, enrollment rights, and preferences all matter. We compare available options from the insurance companies we represent and explain the tradeoffs. We do not offer every plan available in your area.

What should I compare if I split my time between Scottsdale and another state?

Tell us where you permanently reside and where you expect to see doctors while away. We can discuss service areas, routine-care access, out-of-network costs, and prescription access for the coverage you are considering. Original Medicare with Medigap and Medicare Advantage follow different provider-access rules. Your destinations and actual providers matter.

I’m moving to Scottsdale. Should I review my Medicare coverage?

Yes. A move can affect plan availability, service areas, pharmacies, and your access to care. It may also create a Special Enrollment Period, depending on your circumstances. Tell Scott your new ZIP code and moving timeline so you can discuss what to check before making changes. Read about moving with Medicare.

When should I start planning if I’m turning 65?

A few months before your birthday is a useful time to begin. Your Medicare sign-up window generally starts three months before the month you turn 65, but employer coverage or other circumstances may affect when you should enroll. We can help you understand the questions to resolve before choosing coverage. Check Medicare’s enrollment timing guidance.

Do I have to collect Social Security to get Medicare?

No. You can apply for Medicare without starting Social Security retirement benefits. If you already receive Social Security or Railroad Retirement Board benefits, enrollment may be automatic, depending on your circumstances. Check your status rather than assuming you need to apply or that coverage will start automatically.

Do I need Medicare if I’m still working at 65?

That depends on your current coverage. Active employer coverage, employer size, and other factors can affect when to take Part B. COBRA and retiree coverage are different from coverage based on current employment. Check with your benefits administrator before changing coverage. Read Medicare’s guidance on working past 65.

Can I switch to a Medicare Supplement without health questions?

Acceptance can depend on your timing and circumstances. Your Medigap Open Enrollment Period and certain guaranteed issue protections can allow you to buy without medical underwriting. Outside those protections, underwriting may apply. The rules differ from Medicare Advantage and Part D. Read Medicare.gov’s Medigap guidance.

Do I have to visit an office to get help?

No. Medicare Universe is based in Phoenix and serves Scottsdale by phone and virtually. Use the request form to arrange a conversation about your Medicare questions or plan options. You do not need to travel to an office.

What should I have ready for our conversation?

Start with your questions, county and ZIP code, and any current coverage. If we compare plans, a list of your doctors, prescriptions, and preferred pharmacies can be helpful. You don’t need everything ready to ask for help. We’ll explain any next steps. Please do not submit Medicare numbers or medical records in the initial request form.
