Does your Medicare coverage still fit your life?
A different prescription, a new specialist, more time away from Arizona, or a change in your budget can raise new coverage questions. You can also request a review simply to better understand the plan you have.
Scott can help you compare available options from the carriers we represent and explain how they relate to your priorities. We’ll discuss enrollment timing before you decide whether to keep your coverage or pursue a change.
Put your care and costs side by side.
Start with the providers you see, the medications you take, and the costs you want to understand. For Mesa residents receiving care across the East Valley, checking each practice and location is part of a useful comparison.
Bring the plan letter you have questions about.
Benefits summaries and your Annual Notice of Change can help focus a review. The annual notice outlines changes taking effect in January. We can help explain what that information means for your coverage conversation. Learn about the Annual Notice of Change.
Leave with a clearer next step.
A review may lead to a plan comparison, an enrollment-timing discussion, or a better understanding of your current benefits. Changing Medicare Advantage or Part D coverage requires an applicable enrollment period. You are not obligated to switch. Explore Medicare enrollment periods.
Turning 65 in Mesa? Start with the decisions ahead.
Before choosing a plan, it helps to understand how Medicare fits with the insurance you have today. Scott can explain the basics, help you prepare your questions, and compare coverage options when you’re ready.
Reach out a few months before your 65th birthday, retirement, or expected loss of employer coverage. Give yourself time to understand what to do first and which coverage decisions come next.
Understand your enrollment timeline.
For most people turning 65, the Initial Enrollment Period includes the three months before your birthday month, your birthday month, and the three months after. Some people get Parts A and B automatically; others need to apply. Your circumstances affect the right next step.
Check your employer coverage first.
If you or your spouse are still working, ask your benefits administrator how your coverage works with Medicare. Employer size, the type of coverage, prescription benefits, and any Health Savings Account can affect your choices and timing. COBRA and retiree coverage follow different rules from active job-based coverage.
Separate signing up from choosing coverage.
Part A and Part B enrollment is handled by Social Security, or the Railroad Retirement Board when applicable. Choosing Medicare Advantage, Medicare Supplement, or Part D coverage involves additional decisions. We can explain those paths and compare available options from the insurance companies we represent.
You can sign up for Medicare without starting Social Security retirement benefits. If you’re already receiving benefits, check whether you’ll be enrolled automatically. Your Medicare and retirement decisions do not have to happen at the same time.
Medicare plan options in Mesa.
Your Mesa ZIP code is a starting point, and your doctors, medications, budget, and preferences help shape the comparison. Scott can explain these coverage paths and review available options from the insurance companies we represent.
Medicare Advantage
A private-plan alternative to Original Medicare that includes Part A and Part B benefits, and usually Part D. Compare networks, copays, referral rules, and the medical out-of-pocket maximum. You must continue paying your Part B premium.
Learn about Medicare Advantage →Medicare Supplement
Works with Original Medicare to help pay some covered out-of-pocket costs. We can explain Plan G and Plan N, premium differences, and when underwriting may apply. Prescription drug coverage is generally purchased separately.
Explore Medicare Supplement plans →Prescription drug coverage
Compare coverage for your medications at the Mesa pharmacy you prefer. Drug tiers, pharmacy-network status, and coverage rules can affect your costs in addition to the monthly premium.
Get help with prescription coverage →Medigap and Medicare Advantage are different coverage paths; Medigap does not pay Medicare Advantage cost sharing. Availability, eligibility, costs, and benefits vary. Compare coverage options at Medicare.gov.
Build the comparison around the care you use.
Two people in Mesa can have very different coverage priorities. Your primary care practice, specialists, prescriptions, and travel plans deserve a closer look than a carrier name or monthly premium alone.
Whether you live in west Mesa, near downtown, or farther east, you can work with Scott by phone or virtually. We’ll focus on your providers and preferred locations across the East Valley.
Check the facility and the treating providers.
If you receive care at Banner Desert Medical Center or Banner Baywood Medical Center, include that exact location in your review. Check your doctors separately, too. A hospital’s participation does not establish that every physician is in network. These are examples of local facilities, not a claim that any particular plan includes them.
Use your actual medication and pharmacy list.
Include drug names, strengths, and the pharmacy location you use. A plan that covers a medication may still have different cost sharing or coverage rules from another option.
Discuss time spent outside Mesa.
If you spend part of the year elsewhere, explain where you live permanently and where you expect to receive care. Routine care away from home deserves a separate discussion from emergency coverage.
Look at the costs behind the premium.
Compare costs for specialist appointments, diagnostic services, hospital care, and prescriptions. Ask how the Medicare Advantage medical out-of-pocket maximum works and which expenses count toward it. Read about Medicare Advantage out-of-pocket limits.
Medicare questions we hear from Mesa residents.
Ask about getting started, reviewing your options, or understanding the coverage you already have.
Is there a fee to work with a Medicare agent in Mesa?
Medicare Universe does not charge a fee for Medicare education, plan comparison, or enrollment assistance. Insurance carriers compensate licensed agents for eligible enrollments. Your insurance premiums and other plan costs still apply, and you are not obligated to enroll.
Can I get Medicare help at any time of year?
Yes. You can contact Medicare Universe throughout the year to ask questions, understand coverage, or prepare for a future decision. Enrolling in or changing Medicare Advantage or Part D coverage requires an applicable enrollment period. Medigap follows different rules. We’ll help you understand what may be possible in your situation. Learn about Medicare enrollment timing.
What’s the difference between annual enrollment and Medicare Advantage open enrollment?
The Annual Enrollment Period, also called fall Open Enrollment, runs October 15–December 7 and allows changes to Medicare Advantage and Part D coverage. The Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period runs January 1–March 31 for people already in Medicare Advantage; it allows one switch to another Medicare Advantage plan or a return to Original Medicare, with the option to join Part D. Special Enrollment Periods may apply after qualifying events. Medigap has separate rules. See Medicare’s enrollment-period guidance.
Can you help check my Mesa doctors and hospitals?
Yes. We can help review the providers and facilities you use against the specific plans you are considering. Networks can differ among plans from the same insurer. Confirm participation with the plan and provider, including the exact practice location and whether the office is accepting patients under that plan.
Which Medicare plan is best for me?
There is no single plan that fits everyone. Your providers, prescriptions, budget, travel, enrollment rights, and preferences all matter. We compare available options from the insurance companies we represent and explain the tradeoffs. We do not offer every plan available in your area.
Can you help if I live in Mesa part of the year?
Yes. Tell us where your permanent residence is, where you spend time away, and where you expect to receive routine care. Medicare Advantage service areas, provider networks, and out-of-network rules need a separate review from emergency coverage. Original Medicare and Medigap follow different provider-access rules.
When should I start planning if I’m turning 65?
A few months before your birthday is a useful time to begin. Your Medicare sign-up window generally starts three months before the month you turn 65, but employer coverage or other circumstances may affect when you should enroll. We can help you understand the questions to resolve before choosing coverage. Check Medicare’s enrollment timing guidance.
Do I have to collect Social Security to get Medicare?
No. You can apply for Medicare without starting Social Security retirement benefits. If you already receive Social Security or Railroad Retirement Board benefits, enrollment may be automatic, depending on your circumstances. Check your status rather than assuming you need to apply or that coverage will start automatically.
Do I need Medicare if I’m still working at 65?
That depends on your current coverage. Active employer coverage, employer size, and other factors can affect when to take Part B. COBRA and retiree coverage are different from coverage based on current employment. Check with your benefits administrator before changing coverage. Read Medicare’s guidance on working past 65.
Can I switch to a Medicare Supplement without health questions?
Acceptance can depend on your timing and circumstances. Your Medigap Open Enrollment Period and certain guaranteed issue protections can allow you to buy without medical underwriting. Outside those protections, underwriting may apply. The rules differ from Medicare Advantage and Part D. Read Medicare.gov’s Medigap guidance.
Do I have to visit an office to get help?
No. Medicare Universe is based in Phoenix and serves Mesa by phone and virtually. Use the request form to arrange a conversation about your Medicare questions or plan options. You do not need to travel to an office.
What should I have ready for our conversation?
Start with your questions, county and ZIP code, and any current coverage. If we compare plans, a list of your doctors, prescriptions, and preferred pharmacies can be helpful. You don’t need everything ready to ask for help. We’ll explain any next steps. Please do not submit Medicare numbers or medical records in the initial request form.
